ALPHA
Prototype
An
Alpha Prototype demonstrates the form and fit aspects of a product
concept. This is the first step in turning a concept into physical
reality. At this point, the dimensions of the original design
intent are rendered using 3D CAD technology. Once the dimensions
are finalized, an entry level prototype is created utilizing
state of the art rapid prototyping technology. The 3D solid model
is then tested for dimensional accuracy and provides the beginning
stages of any functional aspects.
BETA Prototype
A
Beta Prototype demonstrates the form/fit/function aspects of
the product. At this point, actual engineering principles are
applied to the design to optimize the functionality of the
product. A Beta Prototype is an excellent way to produce a
cost-effective functional model that overcomes the initial
need for full scale manufacturing production. Beta Prototyping
may include, but is not limited to, simulated injection molding,
metal fabrication, and electronic engineering.
PRESENTATION
Prototype
A
Presentation Prototype combines many of the techniques and features
of Alpha and Beta Prototypes and results in what appears to be
an “off the shelf” product. The Presentation model
may be used to demonstrate the product to potential licensing prospects,
or to simply justify the decision to move forward with full-scale
production. Finally, a Presentation Prototype will incorporate
all Form/Fit/Function/Presentation aspects in the final design. |
